“With the criticality matrix, it is possible to design a scale for prioritizing maintenance actions, aiming to guarantee the functioning of the productive system as close as possible to its nominal capacity.“
Criticality of equipment
Method in which a score is assigned to each piece of equipment according to the severity of the failures.
Criteria:
– Safety
– Environment
– Quality
– Productivity
– Maintainability
– Costs
Each of the analyzed equipment must be classified in these six criteria mentioned above, according to three levels of impact:
A: high impact;
B: medium impact;
C: no impact.
After completing this analysis, equipment by equipment, criterion by criterion (1 a 6), the decision flowchart should be used:
Thus, machines will be classified as follows:
A: Highly critical equipment.
B: Moderately critical equipment.
C: Low criticality equipment in the process.
Observation: beyond ABC, there are other methods of evaluating the criticality of machines, as a GUT matrix, o RCM (Reliability Centred Maintenance) and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis).
The importance of the criticality matrix
With the criticality matrix, it is possible to design a scale for prioritizing maintenance actions, aiming to guarantee the functioning of the productive system as close as possible to its nominal capacity.
It is a very important topic in asset management and used by great professionals. A good practice is to elaborate the matrix and make it common to the operation, facilitating the joint decision and the vision of the importance and necessity of each asset, both for production and to establish the best time for intervention.
Is that you, already knew the matrix? You already use it in your operation?
